I think to be happy you have to live in the now. You have to realize that happiness is a feeling and not something you can buy.
I know you probably already know this, but sometimes it's easy to forget. It's also very easy to let negativity take over.
I'm someone who really believes that; like attracts like.
So happy thoughts attract happy thoughts, and negative thoughts attract negative thoughts and feelings.
The little joys
If you want to be happy in the now, you have to appreciate the little joys. Life is not always going to be filled with fancy events, luxury vacations, and fantasy living.
Life is the everyday things. Like enjoying a coffee in the morning. Going swimming, cause it is your favorite hobby.
Like hugging your loved ones, going for a walk, and laughing at funny YouTube videos.
Write a list of your little joys, so that you can remember them when you're feeling blue.
Because that coffee trip really can bring out that smile.
Take in the view
Going for a walk is my favorite way to feel instantly happier.
The air, the mountains, the lakes and trees really have a healing effect. I admit to sitting hours in the park or by the beach.
Most times alone, because when you are alone you can really think. Figure out what you need in your life, to be happier.
Write a grateful list
I write a grateful list with 10 points every day.
These days I "write" the list in my head before bed.
But when you're first starting out, I recommend writing your list down on paper and reading it a few times.
You can list things that went well during the day, and things in general, that you're grateful for; like you're grateful for the fact that you have such wonderful friends, that always give you advice. Your grateful for the wonderful weather today that made it possible to have a picnic, and so on.
Step out of your comfort zone
A comfort zone is a nice place, but like they say nothing ever grows there.
I am a big believer that to feel accomplished and happy in life, you need to step out of your comfort zone. You need to do things that make you feel proud and accomplished.
Something everyone needs to remember is that happiness is a choice, and it's okay to have bad days, just don't turn the bad days into bad years.
